Kvithua - wife scout
In the old folk dress tradition, a married woman had to cover her hair. The first morning as a married women you would receive a wife scout. It followed her all her life and it was not unusual for a wife to be placed in a coffin with a wife scout on.
Kvithua is today part of the festive costume both on Osterøy and elsewhere in Nordhordland.
It is made of linen or cotton. The hat bag is gathered at one end with wrinkles and finished with an embroidered rosette.
