SHEEP WOOL
Wool from our own sheep has been the most important raw material for clothing and textiles for several thousand years.
Wool, and the knowledge of how one can use it, has been essential for living in our part of the world.
Different breeds of sheep give different qualities of wool, but even within the same wool trap you will get wool for different uses. From the old Norwegian sheep breeds, you get both soft bottom wool for fine garments, and long stiff cover hair that is well suited for large boat sails.
The machines used to process wool into thread have mostly not changed over the hundreds of years that sheep have been found in Norway. The wool is shorn from the sheep and carded and spun into thread by a hand spinning tool or on a spinning wheel.
