Wooden Clogs
Most people like to think that wooden shoes are something they made and used in Holland, but in the period up to the Second World War, wooden shoes were some of the most common footwear in Norway as well.
With access to electricity, it became possible to produce wooden shoes in large quantities, and several people started small wooden shoe factories.
As the supply of imported shoes increased after the war, wooden shoes were less in demand, and today they have almost completely disappeared.
In Mjøsvågen in Hosanger you can experience one of the last factories still in operation. Clogs are still produced here on the belt-driven machines from the early 20th century.
