We take care of the industrial heritage site Salhus Tricotagefabrik, and sources of knowledge about the textile industry in Western Norway.

When the smoke from the factory chimney stopped, Salhus Tricotagefabrik (1859–1989) was protected as one of 15 national industrial heritage sites, including the first workers' housing (1860), a schoolhouse (1873), and the home of the first director of the mill.

The Textile Industry Museum's collections include machines for various processes in the production of knitted garments, and clothes produced here in Salhus and elsewhere. With our focus on textiles, we have also received the company archives of the Oslo-based embroidery firm Gunnar Pedersen A/S (1915-86). The Gunnar Pedersen collection contains hundreds of textiles and thousands of patterns, with emphasis on the 1950s–80s.
