Activities Around Salhus

Make your museum visit a day trip!

Hiking Suggestions

There are many great hiking opportunities in the area around Salhus that can easily be combined with a museum visit (see ut.no for inspiration). Or take a walk through Salhus along the cultural heritage trail, where you'll learn more about the town’s history through nine different stops. The trail starts right outside the museum.

Milastemma

A short walk from the museum leads you to the path up to Milastemma. This dam was built for the factory, and water from the Mila River was used as a water supply. The river is named after factory director Emil Clausen (1874–1967). From the dam, you can continue up to Tellevikfjellet.

Here you’ll find directions to the trail.

Swimming Spots

In summer, Rotholsneset is a great place to swim. The swimming area was built by the factory for its workers in 1959, and features an outdoor pool and diving board just behind the factory grounds. More recently, a wooden deck with seating has been added, making it a nice spot to enjoy a packed lunch or picnic. The children’s pool is filled with seawater, and its level changes with the tide. There are no toilets at the swimming area, but the museum’s restrooms can be used during opening hours.

There is also a nice, well-facilitated beach at Storåkervika, located near Salhus Church.
