In the Wake is an installation-performance by choreographer Mirko Guido and scenographer Olga Regitze.
Wool fibres, bodies, gestures, rhythms, and voices continually gather, disperse, and transform one another.
The work emerges from an encounter with Salhus Tekstilindustrimuseum: its monumental machinery and mechanical rhythms. The gestures and collective labour through which wool was prepared for transformation, and the residual fibres that remain in forgotten corners as material traces of what took place there.
100 kilos of loose wool are suspended in circulating air, drifting through the space like an unfamiliar weather phenomenon. Over the course of the day, five performers enter this shifting landscape. Through rhythmic movement, breath, voice, and conversation, they gather and work the fibres into sculptural forms. At the same time, the material acts upon the performers: settling on their bodies, resisting their gestures, redirecting their attention, and reorganising their relationships.
The work unfolds through recurring cycles in which installation and choreography alternate, meet, and transform one another. Fibres disperse, settle, accumulate, and return to circulation. Gestures, rhythms, and voices pass between bodies. Sculptural forms emerge and grow denser, while the atmosphere and social composition of the space continually change.
What the audience encounters is never a finished object or a fixed choreography, but a landscape in ongoing transformation—one they may both witness and enter, shaped by what passes through it and by the traces that remain.
