In this exhibition, BAS students explore knitting as a method for organizing matter in three-dimensional space. Working with both domestic knitting machines at BAS and historic industrial knitting machines at the Textile Industry Museum in Salhus, they have investigated how knitted structures can function as architectural and spatial systems.
Through experimentation, sampling, reflection, and material research, the students have explored knitting across scales, from small models to full-scale architectural prototypes. Using a range of materials, including yarn, wire, and tubing, they have tested the possibilities of knitted structures as forms of construction, spatial organization, and architectural expression.
Developed in collaboration with the Textile Industry Museum, the project highlights knitting not only as a textile practice but also as a tool for architectural thinking, material innovation, and design research.
