Machine listening x knitting session

We will sit amongst the historic machines and work on our own fibre projects. As we experience the soundscape of the museum's collection - knitting, winding, twisting and skeining machines at work - we will be reminded of Salhus's textile production which closed down in 1989. How does this compare to our handknitting today?

We will discuss creativity, handicrafts, labour, hand vs. machine production, the textile industry today as well as anything else that sparks conversation. Bring your own creative project (knitting, crocheting, embroidery, etc.) Some yarn can be provided by the museum.

Programme:
• 11:00 Welcome. Meeting point: knitting loft, scarf machine
• 11:15 – 12:15 Listening to machines at work while working on your own project
• 12:15 – 13:00 Exchange on our listening experience & discuss hand vs. machine knitting while working on your own project
• 13:00 Option to buy lunch at Kafe Krone & round-off the event there

The event will be held in English by Hannah Tochtermann, who we are fortunate to have as an intern at Tekstilindustrimuseet this summer.
