By embracing directional decreases and increases and working with traveling stitches without the need for a cable needle, we can create wonderful designs that add the perfect touch to our knits.
These techniques can be mixed with other methods such as intarsia, stranded knitting, and even embroidery!
Let’s explore how to do this. In this class, we will learn the basic increases and decreases that allow us to manipulate the fabric on both the right and wrong sides.
Understanding these increases and decreases is invaluable as they can be useful for shaping the fabric or for various other projects.

Dario Tubiana Dario Tubiana
Dario Tubiana is an Italian knitwear designer based between Amsterdam and Rome, known for work that bridges traditional and contemporary knitting with a strong passion for handcraft.
He is trained in Creative Knitwear Design from the Accademia di Costume e Moda in Rome and has developed his own capsule collections. Dario has taught workshops at major knitting festivals across Europe, and we are proud to welcome him as a course instructor at Bergen Knit Fest 2026.
Practical information
When?
Saturday September 26th: 10:15-13:15. The workshop is a part of Bergen Strikkefestival.
You will need to buy ticket to attend the workshop.
Homework
No homework needed! YAY!
Supplies for Class
- DK or Worsted weight yarn - this is a great chance to use what’s already in your stash
- Knitting needles suitable for your yarn (usually 3.5–4 mm / US 4–6) - bring more than one
- Small scissors
- Stitch markers
- Handout
- Notebook and pen or pencil for notes.
