Traces of Migration – Stories from Past and Present

For groups 10 to 30
Radøy, one hour north of
Bergen city centre.
Driving in scenic landscapes.

Join us for an engaging guided tour at the Western Norwegian Emigration Center, where we explore the Norwegian emigration to America in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Through authentic buildings in our open-air museum and vivid storytelling, you’ll gain insight into how institutions like the church, school, healthcare system, and political structures played a key role in integration and identity formation in the new land.

We also draw connections to today’s migration experiences through interviews with modern migrants in Norway. How does migration shape individuals and societies? What can the past teach us about language, belonging, and social mobility today?

This tour is suitable for both adults and youth, and invites reflection and conversation.
